Doctor Who - Its Production

The original production of Doctor Who was carried out with few resources. Each episode of 25 minutes was recorded on video (studio scenes) and 16mm film (scenes on location). The makeup, sets and visual effects were precarious, almost amateurish, but the series was a huge success in England thanks mainly to creative itineraries that put The Doctor and his friends in fantastic adventures that took place in several places in space and time.

The series began as an educational program for children, where The Doctor knew famous figures of the past and participated in historical facts. But soon came to dominate the science fiction adventures where the heroes found strange civilizations and extraterrestrial creatures.

Usually a group of episodes formed a series or complete story, and each season consisted of some of these series.

In 1989, the BBC suspended Doctor Who, even still with a good hearing, on the grounds that there would only be a gap greater between the 26th and the 27th season. In fact, the BBC was at an impasse - compared to other contemporary series of American science fiction, far more sophisticated production, Doctor Who could not compete with them technically, and to compete your budget would have to be multiplied . As the BBC at the time was led by executives who did not like much of science fiction and who chose not to release the necessary resources, the series went into a limbo from which they came only in 1996 with the failed attempt to bring it back in a partnership with Fox and Universal. Although sophisticated, the telefilm was considered too Americanized ...

Finally in 2005 the BBC Wales brought back the series, with a much higher than the original production level. The current version has a budget that allows the use of elaborate makeup and effects in computer graphics (CGI).

Each new season consists of 13 episodes of 45 minutes and a Christmas special of 60 minutes recorded in high definition video and later passed to 35mm film.

Except for the special, the 13 episodes, although often telling stories autonomous, are part of an arc that is developed throughout the season.

Each season has brought back at least a classic enemy of the Doctor - already had the back, among others, the Daleks, Cybermen of, the Silurians, the Master, Ice Warriors and great intelligence.

Doctor Who - The Companions of Doctor

Since 1963 more than 35 actors were shown in these roles. The original companions of the First Doctor were their granddaughter Susan Foreman (Carole Ann Ford) and Barbara Wright teachers (Jacqueline Hill) and Ian Chesterton (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Russell_(actor)). The unique history of the classic series in which The Doctor travels alone is 088 in the arch of the 14th Season, "The Deadly Assassin".

The Doctor regularly gains new companions and loses the old; sometimes they return home, have his memory erased, find reasons to stay on Earth or end up dying.

Although not considered a companion, Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart (Nicholas Courtney) was a recurring character in the classic series, appearing for the first time next to the Second Doctor, continuing his appearances alongside the Third, Fourth, Fifth and Seventh Doctors. In 2011, in the episode of the sixth season, "The Wedding of River Song" is said that Brigadier died peacefully in his sleep, thus making a tribute to Nicholas Courtney, who died in early 2011. In 2012, Kate Stewart, daughter Brigadier is introduced in the series, replacing the head as the UNIT.

Likewise, River Song (Alex Kingston) has become a recurring character of the current series. It is an ambiguous character with knowledge of the future doctor. First appeared in "Silence in the Library" with the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant), and gained a higher profile in "The Time of Angels". In "The Wedding of River Song" River and The Doctor were married, in an alternate timeline; however both The Doctor and River are considered husband and wife.

Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill) left the series in the fifth episode of the seventh season, broadcast on 29 September 2012 and the new companion of Doctor, Clara (Jenna-Louise Coleman) was introduced in the first episode the seventh season (Asylum of the Daleks) on September 1, 2012, returning to be "presented" in the Christmas special of 2012 and from the 6th episode of Season 7.

Doctor Who - What is

Doctor Who is an award-winning British science fiction, produced and broadcast by the BBC from 1963 to today. The series shows the adventures of the Doctor (The Doctor), a Time Lord - humanoid alien time traveler. It explores the universe in his time machine, a sensitive spacecraft called TARDIS, whose exterior appearance resembles a London police booth 1963, the same year that the series aired. Along with his companions, Doctor faces a variety of foes, while working to save civilizations, help ordinary people and correct erros.1 Although one of the great constants of the series "Doctor Who" is that no one knows his real name, Time Lord has a name yes. Since 1991, a series of books began to be produced based on the program, but with new stories.

The series received recognition from critics and audiences as one of the best British television programs, including the British Academy Television Award 2006 for Best Drama Series and for five consecutive years (2005-10) won the National Television Awards, during the term Russell T Davies as producer executivo.2 3 in 2011, Matt Smith became the first doctor to be nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role BAFTA. In 2013, the Peabody Award honored Doctor Who with an institutional Peabody "for evolution with technology and sometimes like nothing else in the known television universe" .4 The program is listed in Guinness World Records as the television science fiction series longer duration in world5 and as the "most successful" science fiction series of all time - based on their overall transmission rates, DVDs, book sales, and traffic in iTunes.6 During its original run, was recognized for its imaginative stories, creative low-budget special effects and pioneering use of electronic music (originally produced by the BBC Radiophonic Workshop).

The series is a significant part of British popular culture, 7 8 and other countries has become a classic favorite television program. The show has influenced generations of professionals British television, many of whom grew up watching série.9 The program originally ran from 1963 to 1989. After an unsuccessful attempt to resume normal production in 1996 with a secret pilot in the form of a film for television, the program was relaunched in 2005 by Russell T Davies, who was an executive producer and chief writer in the first five years of its revival, produced by BBC Wales in Cardiff. Series 1 in the XXI century, with Christopher Eccleston as the ninth incarnation of the Doctor, was produced by the BBC. The series 2:03 had some development money contributed by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), which was credited as co-produtora.10 Doctor Who has also spawned spin-offs in various media, including Torchwood (2006) and The Sarah Jane Adventures (2007), both created by Russell T Davies; K-9 (2009), a series of videos divided into four parts called PROBE (1994) and a single pilot K-9 and Company (1981). There were also many parodies and cultural character references in other media.

Twelve actors have worked in the series as the Doctor. The transition from one actor to another is described in the show's plot as regeneration, a process of life of the Time Lords through which the character of the Doctor takes on a new body, and to some extent, new personality, which occurs when it suffers an injury that would be fatal to most other species. Although each interpretation is different, and sometimes an incarnation find each other, they are thought to be aspects of the same character. The Doctor is currently played by Peter Capaldi, who assumed the role after the final appearance of Matt Smith on Christmas Special shown on December 25, 2013.
