Doctor Who - The Opponents

When Sydney Newman commissioned the series, he did not want to "bug-eyed monsters." However, the monsters have become popular with the public and thus became important for the series since almost the beginning.

With revival of the show in 2005, Doctor Who classic villains were reintroduced on a step at a time:

• The Autons with Nestene Daleks and awareness in Season 1;
• Cybermen in Season 2;
• The Master in Season 3;
• The Sontarans and Davros in Season 4;
• The Time Lords (Rassilon) in Special 2009;
• The Silurians in Season 5;
• Cybermats in Season 6;
• The Great Intelligence and the Ice Warriors in Season 7;
• The Zygons the Special 50 Years.

Since his return in 2005, the series also introduced new aliens:

• ood;
• Judoon;
• Weeping Angels (Angels mourners);
• Silence.
